Royston First BID delivers many first-class events and trails for Royston. Highlights include Royston’s Christmas Lights Switch On, Independents Week and the regular children’s town trails.

We will continue to work hard to ensure that events are both relevant and value-adding for our members and the wider community.

Christmas Nutcracker Trail
25th October – 17th December 2023

This year the Christmas Town Trail had a Nutcracker theme. Children were asked to find the twelve enchanting Nutcracker characters hidden around Royston Town Centre shops to be in with a chance of winning a large Nutcracker and treats from Kelly’s Kitchen.

Halloween Monster Trail
21st October – 1st November 2023

This Halloween we invited young adventurers to get ready for a monstrous adventure to find the thirteen playful monsters hidden around Royston Town Centre shops.

Creative Royston’s Art Festival
22nd September – 1st October 2023

Royston First was proud to support Creative Royston as they staged the annual Royston Arts Festival. It attracted around 5,000 visitors to events staged in cooperation with local arts-based groups and schools in the area.

As part of the programme, Royston Museum ran a 5-week long schedule of activities on a Thursday and Friday, thanks to Royston First BID funding.

Glazed Creations Safari Trail
22nd September – 1st October 2023

Celebrating Glazed Creation’s 10th Birthday!

To celebrate the tenth birthday of Glazed Creations, participants were tasked with finding ten animals hidden around Royston Town Centre shops. The winners of the competition, brothers Jake and Reuben, collected a £100 Glazed Creations voucher and one of the featured trail animals. Nine runners-up also received one of the animals used in the trail.
The trail was run in conjunction with Royston Arts Festival.

Teddy Trail
28th July – 21st August 2023

Children enjoyed a bear hunt in Royston Town Centre this summer for the chance to win a pottery painting session at Glazed Creations and a crochet bear.

Participants were also entered into a competition draw, for the chance to win a Pottery Painting Session for One, to paint a teddy at Glazed Creations, and one of the crocheted bears from the trail.
Three-year-old, Lewis Emanuel, who recently moved to the area with his family, was announced as the competition winner.

Royston Charity Kite Festival
6th August 2023

Thousands of visitors flocked to the Rotary Club’s annual event, the Royston Kite Festival, on Sunday 6th August at Therfield Heath. Royston First BID is proud to support the Rotary Club’s annual event.

Royston Summer Pageant
1st July 2023

Royston First was pleased to support the Summer Pageant, organised by Royston Events Partnership (REP). This year’s event was held on Saturday 1st July in the Priory Memorial Gardens from 12pm – 4pm. The activities included archery, axe throwing, and jester juggling!

Independents Week
July 2023

In July, we celebrated the independent business community in Royston. Royston First BID Manager, Paul Brown, along with the Town Mayor, Cllr. Lisa Adams, and the Town Crier, Graham Pfaff, visited Royston’s independent businesses to celebrate and promote them.

Royston Museum

Royston First BID is pleased to continue to work in partnership with Royston Museum and provide sponsorship to support regular events.

Coronation Celebration Day
8th May 2023

Outside: Thousands of visitors flocked to Priory Memorial Gardens with family, friends, and a picnic blanket to enjoy our Coronation Celebration Day on 8th May. There was something for everyone, from the affordable children’s rides, and the live music, to the variety of food choices on offer.

Inside: A coronation-themed indoor event, sponsored by Royston First BID, took place at Limitless Academy on the afternoon of Sunday 7th May.

May Fayre

Royston First BID was pleased to support Royston Town Council with preparations for the annual May Fayre, another fantastic event for our community.

Easter Trail
1st – 16th April 2023

Once again, the children’s Easter Trail was hugely popular this year, with a record-breaking 416 entries. That’s 416 children and their guardians in the town centre, contributing to the town’s overall footfall in April 2023.
